Wow, What A Weekend!

Frosty Moon was pretty magical! We hope everyone enjoyed all the great music performed by some of the best local musicians around. One thing is apparent about all the bands involved in Frosty Moon; they love making music that moves the fans. We hope that everyone who came to Frosty Moon gained a new appreciation for the bands that played and the local music scene.

Just because Frosty Moon is over doesn't mean we plan to stop celebrating the music scene in the Midwest. So...continue to spread the love and support these musicians & venues! We will be hard at work getting pictures, videos, and audio recordings ready for your listening and viewing pleasure. Be sure to check back here regularly for updates. We will also keep in touch with you via Facebook, so be sure to share your pictures and stories with us.

Until next time...

We'll Make The Best of It

We have two unfortunate announcements to make regarding Frosty Moon, as well as a couple exciting ones coming in the near future. First we want to congratulate The Twin Cats for moving on to the final round of Q95's Battle of the Bands: Indy's Next Big Thing. The Twin Cats were recently interviewed on Bob & Tom which you can listen to here. Big thanks to Matt Vice for the recording.

The Twin Cats were scheduled to be playing Frosty Moon's Bloomington Pre-Party at 902's, but this happens to be the same night as Indy's Next Big Thing at The Vogue so...Bloomington family and friends you are going to have to make your way north a day early and join us at Booney's, The Knickerbocker, or Doc's on November 12th.

We also have to announce that King Mountain will no longer be able to perform at Frosty Moon. The lead singer has recently moved out of state and has other engagements that won't allow him to make it back. To make up for this loss we have The New Old Cavalry performing two bluegrass sets on the Lobby stage.

What is a Frosty Moon?

A Frosty Moon is the name for the full moon that takes place in November. Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred.

November is known as the Full Beaver Moon, or Frosty Moon. This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter.

It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon. It gets its name from northern autumnal ground frost, which glistens beautifully in pale moonlight.

For more Full Moon names visit the Farmers Almanac.
